BRIMFIELD-A local woman got a scary surprise when she opened her son’s closet.

Around 4 p.m. today, the woman called the Brimfield Police Department to tell them about the 2-3 foot alligator that she discovered in her 17-year-old son’s room.

Brimfield police officer Russ Diehl told FOX 8 News, three officers responded to the home and saw the gator in the empty closet with just a couple of rocks in the corner and a light.

Diehl said there was a board in between to protect the gator so it couldn’t run out.

The officers used a stick to distract it, while another officer held up a Rubbermaid container and captured it. Diehl said the gator was hissing and snapping when it was captured.

The officers duct taped the container and cut holes in it. The gator was then taken to the police department and put in their kennel.

The Portage County dog warden now has custody of the alligator, since the Brimfield Police Department is not equipped to hold a creature like that at their station.

Since alligators are illegal in Ohio, possible charges could be filed.
