CLEVELAND, Ohio — A swimming advisory has been issued at Edgewater Beach after heavy rains caused raw sewage to be discharged into Lake Erie.

According to a release from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Tuesday’s heavy rains caused a sewer overflow at Edgewater, which caused the discharge.

Visitors, especially children, the elderly and anyone in ill health, should avoid coming into contact with the water and debris.

The sewer district said it will continue daily water quality testing at Edgewater Beach and will announce when the swimming advisory can be lifted.
