PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A man who called 911 to report robbers had broken into his home was transferred to voice mail before shooting one of the intruders.

According to FOX13, it happened this week in Port Richey, Florida.

Four armed robbers reportedly broke into the man’s home. They were after money and prescription drugs.

The man calls 911, saying the robbers had beaten him, and that his wife step-mother were also there.

But when the 911 operator tried to transfer the call from the fire department to the police department, it went to voice mail.

The man ended up shooting one of the robbers.

Officials claim that the voice mail did not cause a delay in how long it took help to arrive. But the dispatch system is being investigated.
