AKRON, Ohio--A local man “Zips” through a surprise marriage proposal.

Thursday night on the campus of the University of Akron, dozens of people gathered to be part of the event.

Mandy Walters, 24, graduated from U of A and met her soon to be future fiancé there as part of Greek Life.

Akron student Ryan Wade, 22, said he wanted to surprise Mandy but that’s not easy to do.

So he set up a Facebook page and dozens of their friends “liked” the idea so much they and decided to help.

Thursday, Ryan said he wanted to take a walk with Mandy and as they neared the center of campus the friends began singing their favorite song, “Dirt Road,” by Jason Aldean.

Then the friends flipped large signs they were holding. On each piece of cardboard was a letter, spelling out the big question: “Will you marry me?”

Mandy broke down in tears as Ryan dropped to one knee, and then she quickly said yes and gave him a big hug and a kiss.

After it was all over, when Mandy was asked how he did, she flashed her sparkling new ring, wiped a tear from eye and said, “Good!”
