Indians lose 3 in a row with fall to Red Sox, 5-2

The Indians losing skid has reached 3 games.

They went into Boston and dropped the first game of their four game series against the Red Sox by a final of 5-2.

Starter Josh Tomlin allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning. The Red Sox got an extra out when Asdrubal Cabrera made a throwing error. Grady Sizemore, the former Indian, hit a ground rule double to plate the first run.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, David Ortiz ripped a two-run homer to straightaway center field to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

Cleveland was able to get within one run in the top of the sixth  inning when Jason Kipnis drove homer Michael Bourn and Michael Brantley.

Boston answered in the bottom of the 6th inning when Brock Holt doubled to deep left field and two Red Sox came home to score.

Jon Lester made sure the 3-run lead stuck as he pitched 7 and two thirds innings, while allowing the two runs. He struck out 4 while giving up 8 hits.

Tomlin gave up 9 hits, four runs; three which were earned in being tagged with the loss.

Game two of the series is Friday night in Boston.
