Victim of Block Party Shooting Identified

CLEVELAND — The person killed during a large fight at a block party in Cleveland has been identified.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, his name is Jaleel Tolbert, 19, of Cleveland.¬† Tolbert was shot in the chest and neck.

Police originally reported two people had died, but said Monday Tolbert was the only fatality from the night before.

However, two other men, ages 20 and 21, were recovering from gunshot wounds at MetroHealth Medical Center.

One was shot in the chest, the other in the buttocks.  Their conditions were unknown.

Around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 11500 block of Tuscora Avenue on Cleveland’s east side.

Hundreds of people were in the area for what neighbors called an annual block party when a large fight began.

At the time of this report, police continued to investigate and search for suspects.
