CLEVELAND – The Metroparks Rangers told Fox 8 News the 88-year-old woman who died when a car went off a cliff at Edgewater Park was the passenger in the vehicle.

The victim was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as Edith J. Pandur of Medina.

Investigators said Pandur’s daughter was at the wheel at the time of the incident.

The car tumbled some 50 feet around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Pandur died at the scene.  Her daughter was rescued from the car, transported by boat to a local marina and then taken to a nearby hospital.

The daughter’s name was not released since no charges have been filed, but she was said to be 59 years old.

It was too early to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.  It was also unclear if the accelerator was pushed while the car was parked near the edge of the cliff.

Barriers will be installed after the investigation is finished.
