VENICE, Fla. — A group of fishermen in Venice make a surprise catch — a 12-foot hammerhead shark.

But a bigger surprise was in store for them: the shark was pregnant, according to WPTV.

When they realized they’d caught a shark, they headed to shore to try to get it untangled and off the fishing line.

It was then they noticed she was injured by a bite mark. And they also noticed that she had been trying to give birth to baby sharks but didn’t have the strength.

The fishermen pulled out 20 baby sharks, and they swam off all seemingly healthy.

The mother did not survive.
