Discovery of Man’s Body in Ditch Still A Mystery

HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Police are investigating after a passerby spotted a body in a ditch in Harpersfield Township, Ashtabula County, Sunday afternoon.

The body of the young black male was found off of Route 307 just east of Route 534.

The man's identity is known, said authorities, but will not be released until his family is notified. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, and the OSP Crime Scene Response Unit were called to the scene.

How the body ended up in that area is a mystery.

According to Ashtabula County Coroner Pam Lancaster, the body had been there for some time. Authorities are not ruling out foul play, and said the deceased person had not been reported missing.

Authorities do not believe the man was hit by a car.

They said there was some evidence of trauma, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.

The case is still under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol would like to talk to anyone who saw suspicious vehicles or people walking in the area on the night of may 10th until the afternoon of May 11t. Anyone with information is asked to call 440-969-1155.
