Man Arrested in Hit-Skip Involving Student, Deputy

AKRON, Ohio — A man has been arrested in a hit-skip involving a deputy sheriff and a University of Akron student last month.

Artemus D. Blanding, 23, of Bedford Heights, faces a charge of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of aggravated vehicular assault in the case.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened April 13 at 2:48 a.m. Witnesses said a GMC Jimmy hit the University of Akron student and a Summit County Sheriff’s Deputy in the parking lot of McDonald’s, 246 East Exchange Street.

After hitting the men, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Both victims were taken to the hospital.

Officials said witnesses helped to identify Blanding as the suspect.

Blanding’s bond has been set at $250,000.
