CLEVELAND– Heroics at Progressive Field.

Mike Aviles lined a single to center field in the bottom of the ninth to plate the winning run and the Indians posted a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night.

Cleveland was trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, when Michael Brantley drove in two runs on a liner to right field.

The Indians added to that 2-1 lead in the 5th inning when Yan Gomes hit a solo homer.

Danny Salazar pitched 6 and a third innings and allowed three runs on six hits. He struck out 7 batters and walked just one. He left with two men on base in the 7th but reliever Bryan Shaw could not hold the fort. Both runners scored and the game was all knotted at 3 runs apiece until the bottom of the ninth when Aviles did his thing.

John Axford came on in the 9th inning and got the job done to set the stage for the game winner. Axford is now 1-3 on the year.

Michael Brantley and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits apiece for the Indians.

The final game of the series is noon Thursday at Progressive Field.
