WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio -- Police are on the hunt for a gunman who terrorized two store clerks before robbing a Dollar Tree in Willoughby Hills Saturday Night.
The store in the Shoppes of Willoughby Hills Plaza opened late Sunday after the incident.
Willoughby Hills Officer Frank Bordelon said the robbery took place around 9 p.m. as two female employees were getting ready to close the store.
"At the time, one of the employees was gathering up the shopping carts, and at that point she saw a male running toward her then forced her inside the store.”
He said this was done at gunpoint.
At the time, the other employee was inside the store counting money from one of the registers. She told police the gunman ordered them both to go inside the store office where they were assaulted.
The woman say they were both struck in the head with the gun and bound with duct tape.
Charles Moore, of Richmond Heights, learned of the robbery after shopping at the store on Sunday.
"Thank goodness they weren't killed or shot, you know,” he said.
The clerks were treating for non-life threatening injuries.
They told police the robber took an undisclosed amount of money from the store and fled on foot.
Dollar Tree Customer Dennis Casper wonders if it is all worth it.
“How much did they really get? I mean is it worth messing around with people's lives and scaring people to do that," he said.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7” and 150-pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, denim skinny jeans and brown "UGG" style boots.
His face was covered with a bandana and he was wearing sunglasses.
Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call the Willoughby Hills Police at (440) 942-9111.
