Deadly Crash: Car Over Embankment Kills 1, Injures 3 Others

CANTON, Ohio --One man is dead, a woman and two female children were injured after their vehicle went over an embankment and into the water late Wednesday night.

Canton police Lt. Chris Field told FOX 8 News, it happened after 11 p.m. in the area of Interstate 77 southbound at US Route 30 westbound in Canton.

The accident involved a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker. According to police, the car left the road and went 100 feet over an embankment trapping the four people inside.

Rescue crews went into the water to attempt to rescue the victims.

The driver, Paul T. Guthrie, 23,  was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center.

Passenger Kymberlie Guthrie, 26, is in critical condition at Akron General Medical Center. Emelyn Guthrie, 1, is in stable condition, and Gabriella Guthrie, 3 months, is in critical condition at Akron Children's Hospital.

Several officers were treated at Aultman Hospital for exposure from being in the water during the rescue.
