FORT WORTH, Texas — A veterinarian from Forth Worth, Texas, is being accused of telling a family their dog was being euthanized, and then secretly using him for blood transfusions.

According to KTVT, the veterinarian told the Harris family that their dog, Sid, suffered from health problems and should be put down. The family gave its permission last October.

But a little over a week ago, the family says a former worker at the vet’s clinic called and told them four-year-old Sid was still alive. They found the dog in a cage in a back room of the clinic, says KTVT.

He was able to walk and jump. The family took the dog to another veterinarian, who said the dog did not need to be put down at all.

The family said the dog was kept at the clinic to supply blood to other dogs being treated there.

The clinic is now closed.
