summit county credit shieldSUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is offering residents a simple tool to help prevent identity theft.

Sheriff Steve Barry announced credit shields will be available to block thieves from using scanners to access personal information from credit cards and hotel keys.

The shield is a small, paper sleeve in which the card may be inserted.

Inspector Bill Holland said thieves are becoming more sophisticated and scanners are a growing trend, but there have not been any recent reports of scanners in the county.

Shields may be picked up at the Summit County Sheriff’s District Offices.

They are free and limited to one per county resident.  Supplies are limited.
