BEACHWOOD, Ohio – They say throwing coins in a fountain can bring good luck, but what if you take some instead? Well, you’ll probably get the exact opposite. That was the case with three juveniles in Beachwood.

According to police, the boys tried to steal $284 worth of coins from a fountain at Beachwood Place Mall after it was closed. That happened on Saturday around 9:45 p.m.

"Number one, you know cameras are everywhere and why on earth would you think you could get away with hiding, putting coins in your pocket and thinking you could possibly get out of the mall?” said shopper, Beverly Riley-Tatum.

The suspects were caught by mall security after attempting to run away. Since they’re underage, their names are not being released and formal charges are still pending.

"I think they should have consequences for their actions no matter how old they are,” said Carmen Brown, who also shops at the mall.

Other shoppers feel a little differently.

"Kids are going to be kids and they're going to make mistakes. This is a big mistake, but I think they'll learn from it,” said Greg Bolose.

FOX 8 requested a statement from the mall, but they declined.
