12-Year-Old Girl Sexually Assaulted On Way to Learning Center

AKRON, Ohio -- A 12-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after telling police she was sexually assaulted in a park on her way to school.

According to police, it happened Wednesday just before 7 a.m. at Prentiss Park.

Police said the 12-year-old girl was on her way to Innes Community Learning Center, 1999 E. Avenue, when she was confronted by the suspect.

Lt. Rick Edwards with Akron police said the girl was walking alone when the man confronted her. The suspect told the girl he was school security.

The suspect then forced the girl into one of the dugouts and sexually assaulted her.

The man then left and told the girl to lay down and count to 100. The girl then ran to the school, but it was not open yet. She used her cell phone to call police.

She was taken to Akron Children's Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a light complexioned black or bi-racial male between 20 and 30 years of age, 5'10" tall, 200 to 220 pounds and stocky.

He was wearing a ski mask, dark blue pullover hooded sweatshirt, navy blue pants, an orange reflector vest and gloves.
