TURTLE POINT MARINA, Ohio — Two boats were back out on Lake Erie on Easter Sunday searching for two boaters who are still missing.

According to ODNR spokesman Matt Eiselstein, the boats went out at about 8 a.m. Sunday and were expected to stay out until around 4 p.m.

Thursday, crews recovered the bodies of Amy Santus, 33, of Perrysburg, and Paige Widmer, 17, who was visiting from South Carolina.

The women and the two missing male boaters left for a fishing expedition on Wednesday. When they didn’t return, police were called and the search began.

Authorities said when the boat was found there was no structural damage. It’s not clear what may have happened.

Investigators say both women found were wearing life jackets but the water temperature was 40 degrees or less – and that means hypothermia can set in quickly.
