PARMA, Ohio — Crews in Parma responded to a fire at a popular meat market Sunday.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. reporting a blaze at State Meats on State Road.

Since it was Easter, no one was in the store. The fire was contained to a piece of equipment.

State Meats is in the Ukranian District of Parma. The family that owns it has run the business for 35 years.

“After our busiest week of the year, during our Easter rush, everybody comes in with their families and buys the kielbasa and all their Easter needs,” said Ryszelle Salo, whose family owns the store. “All the employees went home exhausted, and then we got a call today about 1:30 p.m. on the way to our family lunch that there was a fire, and we had no idea where or how big.”

State Road was closed temporarily, but is now open.
