Tackling Tremont’s Pothole Problem Head-on

TREMONT, Ohio-- The effort continues to fight what's become an epidemic this season: potholes.

People in Tremont said their neighborhood looks like a minefield. "Oh my gosh-- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 20, it’s bad," said Michelle Feather, a Tremont resident.

The streets in Michelle Feather's Tremont neighborhood are littered with potholes.

FOX 8 drove around on the Tremont streets to survey the massive craters.

"They are just everywhere you turn, every street, every corner,” said Feather.

Some are up to five inches deep.

Residents said the potholes make the streets look like an obstacle course as they try to keep their cars from driving over the street craters.

"Try to avoid it every day or it will level my car. Sometimes I think I'm gonna get a DUI given the area because I have to go around them and swerve."

City officials are trying to stay ahead of the pothole problem this year but the bad weather is to blame.

"Potholes this year in this country have become, it's almost like an epidemic," said Michael Cox, director of public works for the City of Cleveland.

Cox said the city has more than 12 work crews patching up the streets plus they have three crews working with the "Pothole Killer."

"We've placed our pothole killer machines in our residential now so we are working with the three that we have in residential areas. We worked them all weekend, Saturday and Sunday and any time we get some good weather, we'll work on those weekends also,” said Cox.

City officials said if you see a dangerous or really large pothole in your neighborhood give the city a call so they can patch it up.
