Limiting Screen Time for Kids
The American Academy of Pediatrics released updated guidelines last fall on how much screen time is appropriate for children.
Now there is discussion on how to effectively restrict the use of television, cell phones, tablets, etc.
The AAP said kids 2 or younger should have no screen time at all. Those who are 3 to 18 should have no more than two hours of screen time.
The Columbian reported experts suggested these guidelines to enforce appropriate screen time:
- Set and keep rules
- Keep screens and Internet out of the bedroom
- Impose bedtime curfews on screen time
- Watch and explore media content with kids
Instead of one “big talk” about Internet safety and appropriate screen time, parents are encouraged to have many small, reoccurring talks.
