Police Investigating After Fatal Wrong-Way Crash

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Police are investigating after a fatal accident on I-480 Saturday night.

According to the preliminary investigation, a car entered the exit ramp at West 130 and began driving the wrong way. The car then collided with another vehicle causing a serious crash at 11:30 p.m.

The driver of the second car was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. The passenger in that car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car going the wrong way has been identified as 40-year-old Julio Cesar Vargas. He was arrested for aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault. He was also taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was treated and released for his injuries and a high level of intoxication.

OVI charges are pending against Vargas.
