DALLAS, Texas– A man, missing for a couple of weeks, was found dead inside his home under piles of trash, according to CBS DFW.

Police started looking for the 67-year-old when friends said the last time they saw him was March 15.

Authorities said there was so much trash in the home, they had to cut a hole in the roof just to get inside, but they couldn’t find him.

A neighbor told CBS DFW, “It just looks like something from a really bad TV show.” Another neighbor said, “Everyone knew there was a hoarding situation. No one knew the extent.”

The man’s body was found several days later when contractors started cleaning out the home.

If everyone who knew him was aware that there was a hoarding situation why didn’t somebody call adult protective services or the health department or make some sort of attempt to help this poor man? Yet another way in which our society and system has failed to protect human life. Very sad, my he rest in peace.

Only so much can be done if a person doesn’t want help, and not all hoarders hoard trash. Without seeing it they couldn’t have known. Instead of jumping all over the neighbors you need to ask the family why they didn’t do anything. The neighbors are why they found him in the first place.
