MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio-- The Bureau of Criminal Investigation told FOX 8 they are assisting with an officer-involved shooting in Middleburg Heights.

It happened just before 3 p.m. on Sheldon Rd.

A man was being served with a probation violation; that's when sources said the man fired at Cuyahoga County Sheriff deputies and they returned fire. It does not appear that any deputies were injured. The man is dead.

Court records show a warrant was issued for the man in February of 2013. The warrant was issued after he failed to appear for probation. He had been on probation after pleading no contest in September 2012 on assault and carrying concealed weapons charges.

The court docket also shows that a psychiatric evaluation was done on the man while he was awaiting trial.

Sheldon Road, both east and westbound, is closed between Fry and Smith while the shooting is investigated.
