MASSILLON, Ohio — A vigil is being held today in memory of a 17-year-old girl killed when she was hit by a truck while crossing the street.

Jamie Lynn DeLeon was attempting to cross Lillian Gish Boulevard in a crosswalk just before 4 p.m. when a man driving a truck hit her with his vehicle.

He did stop after the accident.

A candlelight vigil is set from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at McDonald’s, 200 Lincoln Way West, in Massillon, to remember DeLeon.

According to Nicki Howard, the Director of Massillon Digital Academy, Jamie was on track to graduate from the school this year.

“Jamie was a kind and pleasant girl.  She was shy but got along well with her teachers and friends,” said Howard. “She will be greatly missed by all of us!  This was such a tragedy! Our sincere condolences to Jamie’s family!”

The crash remains under investigation.
