CLEVELAND, Ohio – Tenants in a Cleveland apartment building said it was "pandemonium" Saturday night when a man jumped out a window from the eighth floor.

Police said the 26-year-old man did it in order to avoid being arrested.

"Ambulance, police -- I didn't know what was going on," said tenant Allen Mobley. "There is a lot of crazy people out here who do crazy things to get away from police, and I guess jumping out the eighth floor is one of them."

Police said the suspect got into a fight with a 23-year-old woman and ended up stabbing her with a kitchen knife Saturday night.

When University Circle Police went to the apartment on Ford Drive to investigate, the suspect jumped from the window of the apartment. He landed on an awning before falling to the ground.

"I think that's kinda crazy," said tenant Nicole Smith. "It's not really worth it, you know."

University Circle police found the suspect on the ground unconscious. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for his injuries. Police said he had severe head and skeletal injuries.

Ellen Mosby lives on the eighth floor of the building.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before," she said. "It took a lot of nerve for him to do that. He didn't have any remorse about what he did. I mean, he didn't have any feelings about what he did. He just did it."

Police said charges will be filed at a later date because of the suspect's injuries.
