CLEVELAND, Ohio — He spent nearly 50 years delivering mail — rain or shine, sleet or snow.

Friday, Willie Fort-El was recognized for his dedication and loyalty to the city he loves and was presented a 50-year Federal Service award.

During his time on the job, he’s endured many changes, both in the weather and the post office. But he said he’s most proud of the relationships he’s built with the people on his route.

“It’s a duty to be a friend to mankind, and mankind will be a friend to me,” he said.

At 73 years old, he plans to retire at the end of the year.

Willie was also recognized Friday for his service in the U.S. Army.
