CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Lottery fever is heating up what has been a long, cold winter.

There was a steady flow of lottery players at the Shell Station at Smith and Snow in Brook Park Saturday.

As of Saturday afternoon, no one had hit the Powerball jackpot since Christmas. That was 14 drawings ago. The jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing was $330 million. While not a record, it reached the top 25 biggest jackpots of all time.

Howard Barksdale of Cleveland said he had to give it a shot.

“You have to take a chance at it," said Barksdale. "You know, if you don't play you don't get a chance to win. So, I just tried it to see if I can get lucky."

Andrea Ostapowicz and her mother Clara Sparacia from Portage County came specifically to the Brook Park Shell station to play the Powerball.

“This is where we hear the winners are and we wanted to try it out," Ostapowicz said.

There are nine ways to win, but the lottery player needs the Powerball and the five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Those who feel lucky can pick their own numbers.

"I don't have any strategies for picking numbers. I figure if you're going to be lucky -- you're going to be lucky. I let the computer pick my numbers,” Ostapowicz added.

Odds of winning the jackpot remain one in 176 million. While some see that as a real long shot, others say you only need one ticket to win.

"This time, yes-- it would be a blessing," Sparacia said while holding a Powerball ticket.
