CSU Junior Guard Named Horizon League ‘Player of the Week’
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland State University junior guard Charlie Lee has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 3-9.
Cleveland State (17-9, 8-3 Horizon) completed a perfect road stretch with a 92-85 win at Oakland and a last-minute 72-68 victory at Wright State over the weekend.
Lee carried the Vikings in both road wins, averaging 28.0 points per game and shooting 10-of-13 from 3-point range. He is a big reason why the Vikings have a six game win streak.
At Oakland, Lee posted a career-high 31 points and handed out six assists. With the game tied at 80, Lee broke down the defense before kicking out to Jon Harris, who knocked down the go-ahead 3-pointer, his final assist of the night.
On Saturday, Lee once again led the Vikings, scoring 25 points and adding three assists. On three different occasions over the final 3 minutes of the game, Lee lifted Cleveland State into the lead, the final time coming with 16 seconds left. After being fouled on a 3-point attempt, Lee hit all three free throws, giving the Vikings a 68-67 lead, and the team would hold on down the stretch to win its fourth straight road game.
Lee made all 18 of his free throws in the two games and is a perfect 37 of 37 from the charity stripe with under five minutes in games this year.
