Warming Centers Across NE Ohio

With frigid temperatures in the forecast, several warming centers are opening to offer shelter from the cold.

In Akron, the community centers may be used by anyone wishing to get out of the elements.  Click here for the list of hours.

In Ashtabula, the Ashtabula County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 433 Center Street, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Cleveland, all recreation centers will be open Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross, 3747 Euclid Ave., will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Elyria has announced it will operate a warming center and overnight shelter beginning 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Parish, 320 Middle Ave. The shelter will continue operating as long as needed which could be at least until 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29.

The shelter will offer food and beverages to the area's homeless, those living in conditions with low or no heat and those people with broken furnaces or water pipes.

People who come to the shelter may bring their pets, if they are in a cage.

In Shaker Heights, the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Building will be available to residents who may need refuge from the cold. The address is 3450 Lee Road. People can head there any time before 9 p.m. After 9 pm, call 491-1234 (from a cell phone) or 911 (from a land line) so emergency personnel can arrange to open the building.

In Ashland County, the American Red Cross is opening a shelter at Trinity Lutheran Church (508 Center St.) It will be open from 10 am. to 6 p.m.

In Huron County, The Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross is supporting a warming station at the Norwalk Salvation Army, 55 Whittlesey Avenue. It will remain  open overnight for as long as needed. The Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross is supporting the warming station with cots, blankets, snacks and personnel.

In Jefferson County, the Jefferson County of the American Red Cross, 81 Talbott Drive in Wintersville, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Kent, Kent Social Services (1066 South Water St.) will be open 24 hours a day until further notice.

In Lorain County, the Lorain County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2929 West River Road in Elyria, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Medina County, the Medina County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 780 E. Smith Road, Suite A in Medina, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Mahoning County, the Mahoning County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 3530 Belmont Ave. in Youngstown, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Ravenna, The Center of Hope (1034 W. Main St.) will be open 24 hours a day until further notice.

In Richland County, the Richland County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 39 North Park Street in Mansfield, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Sandusky, the Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross, 300 Central Avenue, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Stark County, the Stark County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 408 Ninth St. in Canton, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

Another shelter will be open at Alliance Resource Center (234 S. Arch St.)

In Stow, the Community Room at the Stow Safety Building (3760 Darrow Road) will be available as a warming center until noon on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

In Summit and Portage Counties, the Summit and Portage Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross, 501 W. Market St. in Akron, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.

In Wayne County, the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 244 W. South St. in Wooster, will be open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are no meal services.
