Police: 2 Arrested for DUI After Crashing, Then Switching Seats

BRIMFIELD, Ohio — Two men were arrested for drunk driving after nearly hitting a trooper on the side of the road, crashing and then switching seats when they were stopped by police.

According to  Brimfield police, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was working a crash on Interstate 76 in Brimfield Sunday around 2 a.m.

Police said the driver of a vehicle almost hit the trooper before losing control and crashing into the divider wires. The driver then gained control and kept driving, said police.

The vehicle was spotted by Brimfield police near the Tallmadge Road exit at mile post 31. When the officer turned on his lights to pull them over, the vehicle stopped and the driver and passenger reportedly switched seats.

The man behind the wheel when the officer approached said he was the driver. Both were arrested for drunk driving, according to police.

One had a .215 blood alcohol level, which is more than two and a half times the legal limit of .08. The other tested at .198, according to police.

Police said the trooper was not injured in the incident.
