LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A group of churches are doing their part to raise awareness and funding for local homeless shelters.
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lakewood Congregational Church and All Saints Episcopal Church gathered people to sleep outside in the cold for the cause.
The event happens every January, and all of the congregations’ youth is invited to participate.
The people involved will be outside a total of 16 hours, sleep in boxes and make fires for warmth.
They set up shop Saturday afternoon and will get to go home Sunday morning.
“This is our 10th annual what we call the homeless awareness sleep out,” said Scott Suttell, of Lakewood Congregational Church. “It’s where the youth of our church from grade 6 to 12 spend the night out living, sleeping in a box and raising money to help the homeless.”
Donations can be dropped off at the church anytime through noon Sunday.
