SUMMIT COUNTY, OH — An Akron woman was arrested for reportedly stealing her son’s Social Security benefits, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the residential provider for the developmentally disabled man reported that he was not receiving his Social Security benefits. The incident was reported to the Summit County Sheriff’s Detective and assigned to the Summit Developmental Disabilities Board.

Through the investigation, authorities determined that the mother of the victim was using her son’s money for her own personal gain. She reportedly stole $1,200 over a two-month period.

The Akron woman was arrested for Theft from the Disabled. She was booked in the Summit County Jail.
