Money is being raised to pay for a 12-year-old girl’s weight loss surgery.

Foxnews.com reports that Alexis Shapiro from Texas was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. It was removed but damage was done to parts of the brain during the procedure. So, Alexis is now prone to overeating.

The little girl’s mother says Alexis has gained 140 pounds in the past two years.

Doctors say gastric bypass surgery could save her life, but the family’s health insurance provider is reportedly refusing to pay because she’s too young.

The family has raised $55,000 through gofundme.com and is hoping the surgery can still happen.
