MENTOR, Ohio-- A local soldier hasn’t seen his little sister in months, so he decided to make their reunion extra special.

“I just thought this was like the perfect thing to blow her out of the water and surprise her with, right before she goes on break for Christmas,” said Nick Deluca with a giant smile on his face.

The 20-year-old is currently serving in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina. The last time he saw his sister, Celina, was nearly seven months ago, and that was only for a few days.

“If I get any chance to come home and see my family, especially my little sister because she’s so close to me, I’m going to take that chance,” he said.

The reunion took place Thursday at Bellflower Elementary School in Mentor. Celina is a fifth grader there and was eating lunch when he showed up to surprise her. As soon as she saw him, she immediately ran up to him and hugged him.

“I was really excited to see him. I haven’t seen him in a while,” said Celina sitting next to her brother.

Nick said the surprise couldn’t have gone any better. He said he’s just happy to be home for the holidays, spending it with people he loves.

“Everything has worked out. It’s been the perfect day. I got to see my whole family come in, see my old teachers, and surprise my little sister. It’s been a great day so far!” he said.
