CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dozens of kids celebrated Christmas early on Tuesday night thanks to some Cleveland police officers.

36 kids were picked to take part in the annual “Shop with a Cop” program. They dashed around Target in Steelyard Commons picking out gifts with $200 to spend.

Even city police horses came into the Target to join in on the fun.

Officers said it’s all about providing a positive experience for kids who have dealt with tragic events this year.

“These kids are the true victims and it’s nice when the detectives can follow through and do something fun with them instead of just interviewing them, and doing all the stressful things that come with police work. So, when we interact with the kids in a different way it’s real nice,” said Jeff Follmer with the Cleveland Police.

Officers said they hope the “Shop with a Cop” program will help them build positive and lasting relationships with the children.
