Dale Earnhardt raced in a car sporting the No. 3 for years, and now a rookie driver is hoping to continue his legacy, according to USA Today.

Starting next season, Austin Dillon will bring the No. 3 back to the Sprint Cup Series full-time. 13 years after Dale Earnhardt’s death.

Dillon is a grandson of Richard Childress, who owned Earnhardt’s cars during most of his career and once drove the number himself.

Childress said he spoke to Earnhardt about the future of the No. 3 car before his death, and was confident the racing champion wanted it to continue racing.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is reportedly also on board with bringing No. 3 back to the racetrack.
