Rumors swirled for much of Tuesday into Wednesday at the Major League baseball meetings about the Indians doing their due diligence in gauging interest in a potential deal with Justin Masterson.

The Yankees had interest and rumors were being brought up by the hour. However, Tribe skipper Terry Francona shot those down. As reported on FOX 8 news at 6pm Wednesday, Francona told reporters he spoke with Masterson to tell him he was not going to be dealt.

“I told him whether he liked it or not, he’s not getting rid of us,” said Francona.

Masterson made $5.6 million last season and could make between $9 and $10 million this year in his last year of arbitration eligibility. It’s possible the two sides will talk about a long-term extension, but those talks have yet to begin.

Masterson went 14-10 with a 3.45 era. He made his first American League All Star club.
