LORAIN, Ohio — A woman and several of her pets died in a house fire while her husband was at work.

The fire was first reported around 9 p.m. Monday.  By the time firefighters arrived, there were already flames shooting out of a second floor window.

It turned out to be the bedroom in which the victim was found.  She was the only one home at the time.

The house was located at East Erie and Idaho avenues in Lorain.  It was built in 1900.  The current family moved in during the mid-90s and put a lot of work into the home, according to the Lorain Fire Department.

After the fire, it was a loss.

One cat made it out alive, but several other cats and dogs perished.

The woman who died was in her early 50s.  Her name was not immediately released.

The Elyria Fire Department assisted the Lorain Fire Department at the scene.  No firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
