CLEVELAND, Ohio – Starting Wednesday at 8 p.m., the I-77 north ramp to I-90 east will be closed. It won’t reopen again until 5 a.m. on Thursday. The same goes for the east 9th street exit off 77.

"It’s not going to impact anyone’s morning commutes. Just a couple people trying to get downtown in the evening,” said ODOT Spokesperson Amanda McFarland.

She said they’re shutting it down temporarily so they can install some safety upgrades.

"What we're going to be doing is installing some kind of safety devices to help motorists understand and navigate the curve that is there,” she said.

Signs are already posted in the area to warn drivers to slow down, but apparently it’s not enough. She said they still see accidents in the area.

"So we're going to be adding a couple of overhead flashing lights that are next to the existing recommended 35 mile an hour signs, along with some reflectors and delineators to help in those darker times,” said McFarland.

Laurie Burns is visiting Cleveland with her husband. She said she’s happy to hear about the improvements.

"I think it would be a good idea, especially for people who aren't familiar with it. We're in there with the people that drive that every day, so I think it's a good idea,” said Burns.
