Official: 10,000 Feared Dead in Philippines
Officials fear at least 10,000 people in the Philippines are dead following one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, according to Reuters.
The majority of the deaths appear to have been caused by surging sea water full of debris, which leveled houses and caused hundreds to drown.
The national government and disaster agency has not confirmed the latest death estimate reported by a senior police official. The number is a sharp increase from the 1,000 reported dead on Saturday.
The Red Cross said it would have more precise numbers Sunday.
City officials have so far only collected 300 to 400 bodies, but believe the death toll has reached an astronomical number.
