ELYRIA, Ohio– A woman called Elyria police on Tuesday morning, saying she’d been robbed at knifepoint in the Elyria Memorial parking lot across from the hospital.

The woman reported that she was walking out to her car around 7:45 a.m. to look for her radiation detection badge, when a man approached her at her car, with a pocket knife in his hand with the blade open.

It was the same man she had spotted on a bench on her way into work at 7:20 a.m.

The woman said she was focusing on the knife and did not look the suspect in the face; she did notice he had a black cloth, possibly a turtleneck or mask, pulled up over his face.

The victim said she was on her phone when this happened and only heard the suspect say, “give me your purse.”

She said the suspect then stole her purse and ran off.

Officers checked the area but were not able to find the man.

This is why you should always be aware of your surroundings and be “focused”! Texts, phone calls, digging for things in your purse etc….can all wait until you are inside your “locked” car!
