CLEVELAND-- A 59-year-old man is dead after getting hit by a car in Oct. He passed away Wednesday while in the hospital.
Police said Joseph Mays was trying to cross the street near West 90th and Lorain Avenue when he was hit by a car.
Witnesses claim the vehicle was going about 50 or 60 miles an hour, and the driver never stopped to see if Mays was okay. Unfortunately, none of them could get a good look at the vehicle.
"It just blew me away. I just thought, how could you just hit somebody and keep going like that?” said Joseph’s brother, Jerome Mays.
Jerome said Joseph was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for anyone. He said he’ll be greatly missed.
"He was doing okay, so I thought he would've pulled through, but it came all the sudden. Everything was good, then he just didn't pull through it,” he said.
Joseph was one of eight children. He leaves behind his wife, seven kids and four grandchildren.
Police are still looking for the driver responsible, anyone with information should call them at 216-623-5295.
Because Mays did not have insurance, his family is accepting money to help with funeral expenses.
