LORAIN, Ohio-- Vincent Elementary in Lorain was founded in 1920. It is the only elementary school in the Clearview Local School District. It is this week’s FOX 8 ‘Cool School.’

The students follow the "give me 3" philosophy. “Give me 3" is: be responsible, be respectful and be a positive role model,” third grader, Jasmin Cruz, explained.

All students, kindergarten through fourth grade, take part in accelerated learning programs. The accelerated reading program is individualized and students choose the books they want to read.

"Teachers are able to help the students self-monitor and pace for themselves. So, students can complete the material successfully at their own rate,” teacher, Penny Reinhart, said. Students don’t have to make the same gains at the same time. "I do reading because I like it. It's fun. It helps me comprehend words more,” fourth grader, Caden Justice, said.

The accelerated math program has students mastering certain math objectives. Students get rewarded for doing excellent work and that equals success. "You do it and if you get a good thing, you get points and after a quarter you get a prize. If you get 30 points, you get a candy bar and 50 you might get a t-shirt," fourth grader, Elijah Adorno, said.

The teachers try to make learning fun so the students are engaged all day. Students as young as kindergarteners are on the computers learning their letters, reading and math.

“Vincent Elementary is a cool school because our students come to school each day ready to learn and ready to give their best. And, the teachers work with the students as closely as we can to help them achieve their highest level,” teacher, Nick Guerrieri, said.

Third grader Emma Jones has her reasons why Vincent Elementary is a 'Cool School.' "We do a lot of fun things here. Nice teachers, nice principal."
