Police: 17-year-old Shot and Killed; Suspect Search Under Way

CLEVELAND – Cleveland police say they are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy.

According to a press release from Sgt. Sammy Morris, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, officers heard a gunshot in the area of E. 71st and Chambers Avenue.

After checking the area, police say they found the teen with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, according to Sgt. Morris.

The homicide unit is now investigating.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the victim and the suspect were involved in a fight. During the altercation, the suspect used a handgun to shoot the victim. The suspect then ran off.
