The calendar may say October, but Mother Nature says it is winter.

Tens of thousands of people in Northeast Ohio woke up to several inches of snow, and a lot of people woke up without power.

"About 4:30 the limbs came down," explained South Euclid resident, Kathy Manning.

It's not even Halloween, but people in many eastside neighborhoods were reminded that winter is almost here.

Large tree limbs and branches could not stand the weight when several inches of heavy snow fell overnight and into Thursday morning.

"The dog started barking and I looked out the window and I see snow and I see branches and I'm thinking 'oh boy," said Richmond Heights resident, Michael Koviak.

"It's early, but Cleveland weather, it's just unpredictable. You gotta take it in stride," he added.

With leaves still on the trees, many of them fell, littering yards and taking down power lines, knocking out electricity to thousands, especially in South Euclid.

That kept power crews busy during the day. It also made some roads, especially side streets, slippery.

"I hadn't gotten the leaves clean. This was not my idea of shoveling yet. We needed a little bit more time, but it's beautiful," said Manning.

"I like it 'cause I get a snow day," said her daughter, Molly.

The snowbelt usually gets hammered when a snowstorm rolls in. Take a look at the video below for more on snow in Chardon.

It was a much different story on the west side. Take a look at the video below for more on that.
