NORTH CAROLINA — Parents are outraged over a staff member’s lesson to students at Eastern Wayne Middle School.

According to The Huffington Post, a staff member came to classes dressed up as an armed robber last week to teach children to be more aware of their surroundings.

The employee wore a ski mask and carried a toy gun that he pointed around the 6th grade classrooms.

After some children were upset by the lesson, the school principal wrote a letter to parents explaining what happened. The letter said teachers “quickly explained who the person was” and then students were asked to discuss what they learned.

This isn’t the first time a skit in school has caused concern. The Huffington Post reports that last December, a New York City principal staged a school shooting as part of a drill without informing teachers or students.
