Auxiliary Police Officer Struck While Directing Traffic

MAPLE HEIGHTS, OH — A Maple Heights auxiliary police officer was hit by a vehicle while he was directing traffic Wednesday morning.

It happened on Lee Road north of Broadway Avenue at around 7:43 a.m., according to police, near Maple Heights City Hall, Maple Heights Police Department and Maple Heights High School.

Police say the officer was taken to the hospital for his injuries, and the driver of the vehicle was detained for further investigation.

A portion of Lee Road was closed after the accident, but has since reopened.

Anyone who may have seen the accident is asked to call Maple Heights police.
