Avon Police ID Suspect in Fatal Roommate Shooting

AVON, OH — Avon police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Saturday.

According to police, officers from both the Avon Lake Police Department and Sheffield Village Police Department responded to a residence after receiving a call that a male had been shot in the head.

Once they arrived, officers found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound in one of the bedrooms. Another man, identified by police as Ryan Raider, 25, was leaning over him, attempting to control the bleeding.

The victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center were he was pronounced dead.

Police say the initial investigation revealed that Raider, the victim’s roommate, shot the victim in the head. Police believe alcohol may have played a factor in the shooting.

Raider was taken into custody and is charged with reckless homicide and weapons while intoxicated. He’s being held in Lorain County Jail.
