According to Benjamin Johnson, the Xerox cash and food assistance card payment system went down around 11:00 a.m. Saturday. As of 3:30 p.m., the cash system has been fixed, but the EBT card system is still down.

Xerox has assured the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that officials are working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Sixteen states that use the system are affected by the outage.

Retailers have been instructed to use the manual systems. Customers should call the number on the back of their card to be guided through the purchase process.

Johnson says the incident is not related to the government shutdown.

I worked 9a-5p today at a grocery store. One of our managers called around 11:15am and was on hold for 45 minutes. We were told to go ahead and use the voucher slips to manually enter the ebts, which we did! But we had so many people using the ebt cards that a second call had to be made to see what we should do when we run out of the vouchers, thats when we were told to stop taking any and all ebt cards! I suspect thats what happened everywhere else that also had to turn down people. No one was “being lazy” or “refusing to do their jobs”, we were doing exactly what we were told to do!

I like how those who have jobs are being called “LAZY,” its because of those workers you have money to feed your families.

Amen, Mary! I’ve been thinking the same thing. These people writing in berating store workers. If it weren’t for those store workers’ tax dollars, along with your’s and mine, they wouldn’t be eating for free!
